During our first two weeks in town, we were feeling a little lonely, and David had to make a trip to Columbia for a meeting, so our friends spontaneously drove the 5 hours from home from Thursday-Saturday to cheer us up.

My friend Caroline brought five of her seven kids, an impressive effort for just two quick nights in Chattanooga. On Friday, we celebrated Dahlia’s birthday with chocolate chip pancakes, made by Gabe and Emilie, then drove to Fort Loudon with a picnic lunch to meet up with our mutual friends, the Shales, who live near Knoxville.

After our Fort Loudon adventure in the blazing Tennessee sun, the Shales came back to our house for a sleepover.

This is something that makes me love our new house: we packed 11 extra people in here that Friday night. Not everyone had an actual bed, but everyone had a bedroom! And since the bedrooms are carpeted, sleeping on the floor isn’t bad at all.

A big reason we chose this particular house is we wanted a comfortable, cozy place for friends and family to feel free to come visit. It gives us hope to see it happen so quickly, and I loved seeing the pile of kids on our new king-sized bed, listening to an audiobook and doing art.

On Friday afternoon we received some hard news for our family. I can’t thank God enough that He knew what was coming and provided friends from home to be here with us, to cry and hug us, play games and make us smile, cook us dinner, and and just sit in silence holding our hand when that’s what we needed.

God’s going to take care of us here in Chattanooga.

Thank you, thank you Marcys and Shales, for coming to see us in our new home!

Love,

Julie
